Interplanetary Materials release!!
Mood:  incredulous
Awhile back, DJ Fred Yarm brought his theremin over and we did some recording. Mister Twink mixed everything down, and we submitted the resulting track to the Comfort Stand label. It was accepted for an upcoming compilation with an outer space theme.

Well today is the release date for that compilation!! It is all free - just download the tracks and the artwork (by Etherbrian!!), burn a cd for yourself, and print the covers & inserts...then enjoy!

Definitely check it out for yourself, but here's what the press release says:

Twisting through a neighborhood of quasars on the other side of our galaxy we fall into "Interplanetary Materials". Colossal re-composition of the senses Doc Who style with a splash of Rimbaud. 36 artists. Double album action.

outer spaaaaaaace and other tales
Exciting times here in wisteriaxland...
Working on tracks for 2 compilations (one of them involving outer space - thus, the subject of this entry) and a for a great noise radio show, and several tapeworms. Plus things are really heating up for the Sob Sisters.

Also, another fine filmmaker asked for permission to use parts of Static Voyage for an upcoming project which I am thrilled about! More specific news on all of these things later, but for now I leave you with an "artsy" photo of last night's Sob Sisters set at ZuZu...

Take Back the Noise!
Mood:  lyrical
A friend tipped me off to a very interesting Noise compilation cd project, to which I will be submitting a track shortly.

Here are more details:
Women Take Back The Noise

I have a few ideas for some appropriate recordings, and I hope that one of them will make it to the compilation cd. I'll keep you posted! Wish me luck - I am very excited about this!!

rss test
Ok, I admit it. Nothing much is going in wisteriax-wise. But I need to make a post to see if the RSS feed for this blog is actually working.

If it is, I'll add a link somewhere so that you - my lovely readers - can subscribe to it :)

score!
An old high school pal of mine is making a film and wants to use one of my Static Voyage tracks for part of the score. I am delighted!

Hopefully, I will get to see the film sometime. From what she's told me, the subject matter is a bit morbid. Why doesn't that surprise me? Haha :)

kittenwhip update
Awhile ago, I submitted a track for a compilation on a DIY experimental cd-r label called Kittenwhip. The comp, entitled "Mood Swing Theater Volume 1," will be out very soon, and I'm excited about that.

Kittenwhip is organized by lo-fi experimental artist ethelscull, whose work I admire very much. She has a track on Mood Swing Theater as well, as does Oryx Incruentus, whose music I also love. Should be a great release! I'll let people know when it is out.

Whoa, is it 2004 already?
Now Playing: Erik Friedlander: Maldoror
Just a progress report of sorts to ring in the new year...
Almost finished with the soundtrack for The Hidden. This has been an interesting project for me so far - hope it is well-received. I've layered quite a few different sounds and techniques, and I'm quite pleased with the end result. (Though I must say that trying to match up a digital music file with a video on VHS tape is a little on the frustrating side. Hopefully, the music cues will sync up well to the final cut of the film.)

Got some new gear, including the Line6 digital delay modeler which I have been wanting for the infinite-repeat sampler it has inside. I also traded in my beastly old amplifier for a brand new model. (Yes, I know -it's a Behringer...but the price could not be beat!! And it is stereo with 2 channels plus lots of FX.) This amp should be much better for live shows - although the speakers are smaller than the old one, the definition is much more clear, and it has nice warmth for a solid-state contraption.

I hope that 2004 is as productive as the past year has been. I've worked with so many talented and interesting people, and for that I am very thankful.

tinnitus
Mood:  down
Now Playing: rrrrriiinnnnnnggg...
I hope it is temporary, but over the past week or so, I've noticed that I seem to have tinnitus in both ears. It is only noticeable when the room is totally quiet, but it sounds like 3 or 4 ring tones in different keys blended together...rather unpleasant.

I'm usually pretty good about wearing earplugs in loud situations, so I don't know why this is happening. Hope it is just a stuffy-head thing. I have been kind of congested lately.

Anyhow - if you are a musician - Wear Earplugs!!! You don't want to lose your precious hearing.

And that's my rant for today...

Oh: last night, I made a scratch recording of the main theme for the film score I'm working on (the hidden) and the arrangement turned out pretty satisfying! If only I hadn't gone and accidentally recorded the click track to the instrumental tracks, it would've been usable for the project. Oh, well...starting fresh is probably a good idea.

Now that Tripod offers advanced customization features, I can make this blog look like it belongs with the rest of my site design!!!

Still working out some of the design kinks (a.k.a. my coding limitations) but holy cow I love how this looks!!!
